About David

I've been interested in wine ever since I first had a glass with Christmas dinner when I was twelve years old. Thanks, Mom and Dad.

But what really kicked my passion for wine into high gear was living (and working) in Europe for 8 years. So many different wines, each one a new experience.

Now I'm an accredited sommelier, as well as a Chartered Accountant and a retired CEO, who gets to indulge in his passion for wine (when I'm not on the golf course or busy with community-based volunteering).

I write about wines from a "living in Ottawa" perspective, but I wander off into broader, yet related, subjects.

What do I like? I like wines that offer something different. More Old World Wines than New World, trying lesser-known varietals (hello, Italy), and Biodynamic wines. (For more info on my preferences, see About My Picks.)

The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.
So I'm open to all kinds of opinions…from Alice Feiring to Robert Parker...from Jancis Robinson to...a lot of other wine bloggers.  (Check out What I Follow in the column on the left.)

My only dogma is that I have no dogma.  Preferences, yes; opinions, yes; judgemental arrogance, no.
